  • Micropulse Lidar Cloud Mask Machine Learning VAP Now In Production

This sample quicklook plot from the Southern Great Plains atmospheric observatory shows the log of the normalized relative backscatter (log10 NRB), linear depolarization ratio (LDR), and cloud mask from the MPLCMASKML value-added product for January 1, 2015. In addition, the plot contains the machine learning model’s confidence in its prediction, and cloud base and cloud…

  • New Precipitation Radar Data Products Released for 2 ARM Observatories

Plots from the North Slope of Alaska data set show, clockwise from top left, hydrometeor classification (gate ID), reflectivity, cross-correlation coefficient, and velocity texture (mean Doppler velocity) generated from version 2 of the CMAC value-added product for November 23, 2019. The top left plot shows IDs of ground clutter, snow, and multitrip. Gate ID—the classification…

  • Improved Microwave Radiometer Retrieval Data Produced for 2 ARM Sites

This Microwave Radiometer Retrievals (MWRRET) quicklook image provides information from ARM’s Southern Great Plains Central Facility on July 2, 2021. The image shows, from top to bottom, observed brightness temperatures at 23.8 GHz (blue) and 31.4 GHz (red); retrieved precipitable water vapor from the physical method (blue) and statistical method (green); and retrieved liquid water…

  • Satellite-Aligned Version of Ka-Band ARM Zenith Radar Product Now Available

The top image shows best-estimate reflectivity from the Ka-Band ARM Zenith Radar Active Remote Sensing of CLouds (KAZRARSCL) product for a sample day at the Southern Great Plains atmospheric observatory. The middle image provides the KAZRARSCL best-estimate reflectivity after statistical alignment with CloudSat. The bottom image shows the CloudSat reflectivity offset that was applied at…

  • ARM Best Estimate Data Sets Updated for 2 ARM Observatories

The plots show ARMBEATM relative humidity (top) and surface precipitation (bottom) from May to October 2020 at ARM’s Southern Great Plains (SGP) atmospheric observatory. The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) user facility provides tailored datastreams known as ARM Best Estimate (ARMBE) data products for use in the evaluation of global earth system models. The ARM Best…

  • New Micropulse Lidar Cloud Mask Machine Learning VAP Released

This sample MPLCMASKML plot from the Southern Great Plains atmospheric observatory shows the log of the normalized relative backscatter (log10 NRB), linear depolarization ratio (LDR), and cloud masks from the MPLCMASKML and MPLCMASK value-added products for December 24, 2017. The strength of the machine learning approach is apparent on this day when moderate aerosol loading…

  • Aerosol Optical Depth Product Generates New Data

The colors represent aerosol optical depths measured at five different wavelengths with the multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer on June 19, 2019, at Oliktok Point, Alaska. New data are now available from the Aerosol Optical Depth value-added product derived from multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer measurements (AOD-MFRSR VAP). AOD is the measure of the total aerosol burden…

  • REVISED: Additional Ka-Band ARM Zenith Radar Product Releases Now Available

Editor’s note (September 1, 2021): Ka-Band ARM Zenith Radar Active Remote Sensing of CLouds (KAZRARSCL) data from January through June 2021 are now available for the Southern Great Plains and North Slope of Alaska atmospheric observatories. The data announcement below was originally published June 28, 2021. These plots illustrate the KAZRARSCL product for a sample…

  • Updated Surface Spectral Albedo Data Released

This example quicklook from the SURFSPECALB value-added product shows the estimated spectral albedo for the 10- and 25-meter towers at ARM’s Southern Great Plains atmospheric observatory on June 2, 2016. On that date, the surface type for both towers was all vegetation. Updated data from the Surface Spectral Albedo value-added product (SURFSPECALB VAP) are available…

  • Micropulse Lidar Cloud Mask VAP Data Revised for High-Latitude Sites

Data reprocessed with a revised version of the Micropulse Lidar Cloud Mask value-added product (MPLCMASK VAP) are now available for four high-latitude sites. This reprocessing also includes periods of data previously listed as missing. The durations of missing data varied from several minutes to several hours and occurred periodically during the winter months. Affected fields…
