The Climate/Carbon Science Group within the Atmospheric, Earth and Energy Division has an opening for a postdoctoral scientist in the area of cloud property retrievals and validation. The successful candidate will join the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) ARM data infrastructure team to develop and evaluate a multi-year continuous ensemble cloud microphysical properties data set from ARM’s ground-based remote sensors in support of modeling studies of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Atmospheric System Research (ASR) program. The scientist will have the opportunity to engage with a broad community of scientists working on cloud property retrievals and validation and coordinate group activities led by the ASR’s Cloud Lifecycle Working Group.
This is a two-year term appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of employment offer.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to prove the value of ensemble cloud retrievals by studying various cloud systems observed over the different ARM sites.
