Postdoctoral Research Associate Position Available in Climate Modeling

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is currently seeking candidates for a post doc to conduct research that will assess and improve cloud simulation in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model using novel radar and satellite-based observations. Simulations will be run on the New York Blue supercomputer, which is a 100-teraflop IBM Blue Gene/L massively parallel supercomputer that is jointly operated by BNL and Stony Brook University (SBU).

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with Prof. Minghau Zhang (SBU), along with many other researchers that support the collaborative effort between BNL and SBU to understand the chemical, atmospheric, and oceanic processes that effect weather and climate.

This position requires a PhD in atmospheric sciences or related field, and regional or global-scale modeling experience. Preferred candidates posses experience with WRF, the NCAR Community Atmosphere Model, or other mesoscale models; computing on massively parallel systems; and are familiar with cloud physics, radiation transfer, and remote sensing. The appointment is scheduled to last one year, with a conditional extension for up to two years.

BNL is located on Long Island, NY, about 60 miles outside New York City, and is an equal opportunity employer.
