The National Science Foundation (NSF) is currently seeking a candidate for a 3-year postdoctoral associate position with the Department of Meteorology, University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM). This position will focus on observations made in the Severe Thunderstorm Electrification and Precipitation Study (STEPS). An existing 3D cloud-resolving model of aerosol-cloud interaction will be used to allow exploration of the impact of environmental aerosol and thermodynamic controls on the lightning of a continental cumulonimbus cell. The appointment is scheduled to begin in early December 2009. The annual stipend will be approximately $55,000.
Successful candidates must have a PhD in a relevant field (i.e., physics, atmospheric sciences, meteorology). Previous numerical modeling experience and a familiarity with UNIX programming is desired.
