ARM Aerial Facility Operations Lead Scientist Position Available



This position has been filled. The ARM Aerial Facility (AAF), an integral measurement capability of the ARM Climate Research Facility, is seeking a scientist (Level II/III) to fill the position of an AAF operations lead. This position is a part of the climate physics group in the Atmospheric Science and Global Change Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Staff of the Atmospheric Sciences and Global Change Division at PNNL are operating the AAF for the U.S. Department of Energy’s ARM Climate Research Facility.

The successful candidate will assist the AAF Technical Director in all stages of scientific aircraft missions carried out by the ARM Climate Research Facility’s AAF. This includes mission planning, budgeting, logistics, safety, execution (e.g., flight planning, weather forecasting support), and follow-up (e.g., data archiving, data workshops, data quality assurance). Candidate must have demonstrated experience in scientific aircraft deployments and aircraft instrumentation aimed at cloud, aerosol, and radiation measurements. Familiarity with ARM and experience in weather forecasting and instrument development are advantageous. Candidate must be an extremely well organized and hands-on individual, with strong writing, public speaking, and presentation skills. Program management and leadership skills, or willingness to acquire these, is important.
