Facilities/Instrumentation Development Manager at the Southern Great Plains Site


The ARM/SGP site is seeking a Facilities/Instrumentation Development Manager to be based at the SGP Central Facility near Lamont, OK. The Central Facility hosts over 50 instrument systems ranging from basic surface meteorological measurements to sophisticated radars and lidars, and oversees the operation of nearly 30 smaller remote facilities in south-central Kansas and central Oklahoma.

Qualifications for the position include a degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent work experience) with experience in the installation and maintenance of scientific instrumentation. Duties will include: overseeing installation of scientific instrumentation and associate infrastructure (site preparation, instrument housings and platforms, electrical); overall responsibility for facilities maintenance of structures at the SGP and outlying facilities including plumbing, electrical, structural, and HVAC; writing Statements of Work, assessing bids, and managing contractors as required for site and instrument development (electrical, HVAC, general construction, etc.); interfacing with scientists and technicians across the nation; work with Site Safety to ensure a safe work environment; and other duties. The successful candidate will be one that desires to go beyond the day-to-day duties to understand how the instruments work, what they measure, and to help make sure they function as intended.
