The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) at the University of Miami invites applications for two postdoctoral positions in the Division of Meteorology and Physical Oceanography. We are seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research associates with strong backgrounds in numerical modeling and physics of tropical convective systems. Successful candidates are expected to join a research team consisting of scientists from multiple institutes to conduct research using field observations to evaluate and improve simulations of cloud systems related to the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) by cloud-permitting models of global, regional, and local domains.
One postdoctoral associate will be located at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and work closely with NCAR scientists on modeling using the MPAS (Model for Prediction Across Scales). Another will work closely with scientists from University of Miami, Harvard, and NASA Goddard on modeling using cloud-permitting GEOS-5 and SAM. Both are expected to participate in model-observation comparisons and model improvement.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter stating research interest, curriculum vitae, and a list of names and addresses (including email addresses) of three professional references. Applications will be reviewed as received and the positions kept open until filled. The starting date of the position is expected to be in fall 2012, but is negotiable. The appointment will be initially one year, renewable up to three years. Salary will commensurate with experience. Applications or requests for more information should be directed to:
