The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) at the University of Oklahoma is currently seeking a research associate scientist for the National Severe Storms Laboratory’s (NSSL) Severe Weather Warning Applications and Technology Transfer (SWAT) group to develop scientific applications that will assist forecasters in the warning decision-making process for severe weather events.
Responsibilities include acquiring and applying expertise in severe local storm and the warning-decision making process, develop warning decision-making and data mining applications, participate in applied research experiments in the Hazardous Weather Testbed’s Experimental Warning Program, present and publish research results, and review technical and professional publications.
Successful candidates must have a Masters or PhD in meteorology, atmospheric science, or related area; computer programming experience; and good oral and written communication skills.
Annual salary range is $48,000 to $70,000 dependent on experience and includes university benefits. The position is expected to begin February 2012.
