Postdoc Position – NCAR


The Climate and Global Dynamics Division at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) is currently seeking a postdoctoral scientist to conduct research to evaluate and improve clouds in the Community Atmosphere Model and the Community Earth System Model. Research activities will include analysis of existing model integrations and observations, development and processing of new data sets, testing of hypotheses, and enhancement of understanding of the underlying cloud mechanisms being studied. Presenting results at conferences and seminars and publishing results in peer-reviewed scientific literature is expected.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • a PhD in atmospheric physics, meteorology, earth system sciences, or a related field
  • familiarity with satellite and in situ data analysis
  • science interest in cloud processes
  • familiarity with atmospheric modeling
  • ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • strong written and oral communication skills, especially for scientific publications
  • proficiency in software diagnostic tools such as NCL, IDL, or MATLAB and experience in scientific computing
  • experience working in a LINUX command line computing environment.
  • The position is a new, full-time two-year term position. Applications must be received by October 28, 2011.
