User Facility Featured at Atmospheric System Research Science Team Meeting

At the first Science Team Meeting of the U.S. DOE Atmospheric System Research (ASR) program in mid-March, DOE leadership reinforced the need for coordination with the ARM Climate Research Facility and the use of its data to achieve ongoing modeling improvements. Because of the close and necessary relationship between the science program and user facility, ARM Facility staff were heavily involved in many of the meeting’s activities, including an orientation for new principal investigators as well as coordinating the meeting and logistics. In addition, numerous breakout sessions focused on planning activities for ARM field campaigns and the implementation and implications of facility enhancements from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

>ARM infrastructure staff contributed several dozen posters to the Tuesday and Wednesday poster sessions, with 16 posters covering ARM efforts associated with the Recovery Act. Out of the 265 total posters at the meeting, ARM Data Archive staff Christopher Lenhardt and Raymond McCord of Oak Ridge National Laboratory placed first and second, respectively, for the “People’s Choice Award.” Their two-part poster series focused on “surviving the deluge” of data that the ARM Data Archive will receive from new instruments through the Recovery Act.
