Black Forest, Germany, WACR-ARSCL Evaluation Products Now Available
Observations from the 95 GHz W-band ARM Cloud Radar (WACR), Micropulse Lidar, and ceilometer have been combined using the new WACR-Active Remote Sensing of Clouds (WACR-ARSCL) value-added process (VAP) (Kollias and Miller, 2007) to produce cloud boundaries and time-height profiles of cloud location, radar moments, and linear depolarization ratio fields for the ARM Mobile Facility…

Announcing the Release of the Radiative Flux Analysis PI Product
Developed by Dr. Chuck Long, Radiative Flux Analysis PI Product data are now available from the ARM Climate Research Facility Archive. The current release includes data for all of the ARM fixed sites (except Darwin, which requires manual processing because of the monsoon season) plus data for the AMF deployments at Pt. Reyes and the…

New ARM PI Product—Merged MMCR and WSR-88D Data Sets
A new ARM Principal Investigator (PI) product—Merged MMCR and WSR-88D Data sets (PI:X. Dong)—is now available at the ARM Climate Research Facility Data Archive. This data set merges Millimeter Wavelength Cloud Radar (MMCR) reflectivity data with National Weather Service precipitation radar (WSR-88D) observations to provide improved radar reflectivity profiles in situations where the MMCR signal…

Long-Term Best Estimate Data Available for Climate Modelers
CMBE data plot example. To better serve the needs of climate model development, the ARM Climate Research Facility has devoted significant effort to assemble a “climate modeling best estimate” (CMBE) of the highest-quality cloud and radiation measurements. This data set, specifically tailored for use in evaluating global climate models, includes long-term best estimates from selected…

Data from the NOAA Climate Reference Network for Barrow, AK, and Stillwater, OK, are Available Through the External Data Center
The ARM Climate Research Facility is providing data in netCDF format from the U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN), a network of climate change monitoring stations developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This network provides long-term observations of temperature and precipitation that can be paired with long-term historical observations for the detection and…

ICRCCM Results Now Available at the ARM Data Archive
Data and documentation from the first Intercomparison of Radiation Codes in Climate Models (ICRCCM-1) are now included at the ARM Data Archive. This 1980s climate modeling project eventually led to the creation of the ARM Program. Included in this repository are all available correspondences, publications, reports, workshops and meetings, ICRCCM test cases, longwave and shortwave…

New, Improved Algorithm for Retrieving Liquid Water Path Now Available at the ARM Data Archive
The MWRRET product uses an improved retrieval technique and a method to identify and remove biases from the data to greatly improve the retrieved LWP (blue). It also performs so-called physical retrievals at each radiosonde launch time (black dots)—physical retrievals are the best possible retrieval that can be performed. The total amount of liquid water…

Arctic Surface Radiation Data Now Available at the ARM Data Archive
Researchers lead by principal investigator Ellsworth Dutton used more than 30 years of surface irradiance data obtained from Barrow, Alaska, in a study of temporal and spatial variations (Dutton et al. 2006). The high-temporal-resolution (1- to 3-minute averages) data and the quality-assured hourly averages are now available from the ARM Data Archive. See http://www.arm.gov/xdc/xds/noaarad for…
